About the Movement for Global Mental Health

The Movement for Global Mental Health (MGMH) stands as a distinctive global alliance comprising opinion leaders, mental healthcare professionals, academics, organisations, and individuals dedicated to enhancing access to quality, effective and human rights based services for individuals living with mental health conditions and psychosocial disabilities.

Originating in 2008, the Movement emerged in response to a Call for Action articulated in the inaugural Lancet series on Global Mental Health, advocating for the scaling up of services for those affected by mental health conditions globally, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where access to effective services is frequently limited.

Within its alliance of civil society, the MGMH fosters an inclusive platform, ensuring equitable recognition of all contributions and acknowledging individuals with lived experience as pivotal collaborators in fostering mental health and well-being universally. At the core of the Movement lie two essential tenets: reliance on scientific evidence and unwavering commitment to human rights.

About the Global Mental Health Peer Network

The Global Mental Health Peer Network (GMHPN) is an international organisation that builds capacity among people with lived experience of a mental health condition through empowerment, peer-to-peer mentorship and support.

The organisation was born out of the vision of the MGMH to strengthen the voices of people living with mental health conditions globally, and officially launched at the 5th Global Mental Health Summit in 2018. Today, GMHPN is proudly the Secretariat for the MGMH.

GMHPN is not just another non-profit organisation – it’s community, one big family, people who care for each other, who value each other’s experiences and perspectives, who celebrate each other’s diversity, and who are determined to create a better world for all. This is what we are most proud of.

As people who have firsthand experience with mental health conditions bring distinctive perspectives, resilience, and a capacity to initiate positive transformations from the grassroots level, ushering in a new era and elevating the significance of lived experience expertise to unprecedented heights.
