Mireille Wenger
Mireille Wenger is the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Health & Wellness. In the previous term, she served in Premier’s Winde’s cabinet as the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, appointed in 2022.
Serving as an Member of the Provincial Legislature in the Western Cape Parliament for the last decade, she has had several key roles, such as the Chief Whip and chairperson of the first-of-its-kind Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19. She was a member of the Health Standing Committee and served on a hospital facility board for several years.
This extensive experience on a variety of portfolios has enabled Mireille to develop a deep understanding of the policy challenges that the Western Cape and South Africa face. Mireille is passionate about expanding access to quality healthcare for all. She believes in inspiring fresh, new ideas, and building partnerships with the private sector, and other levels of government, to get the job done.
Education: MA (International Relations) University of Stellenbosch, MPhil (Criminology) University of Cape Town, Diploma in Political Science and Sociology from Sciences Po (L'Institut d'études politiques de Paris) in France, and recently completed the certificate course in Health Economics and Policy with the London School of Economics and Politics (LSE).
